Presentation at the Medical & Healthcare Pitch Event
On September 29, 2026, Shin Yoshida, Representative Director of Gel Coat Biomaterials, Inc., presented at the “Medical & Healthcare Pitch Online” event organized by KBIC (Kawasaki Business Incubation Center).
The event brought together companies and organizations from the pharmaceutical, medical, and healthcare sectors, as well as healthcare institutions, providing a platform for presentations on emerging technologies and new business opportunities in the medical and healthcare fields.
Under the theme “Stabilization of Enzymes and Pharmaceuticals and Reduction of Cold-Chain Dependence,” Gel Coat Biomaterials introduced its proprietary biomolecule stabilization technology, Gel Coat™, and its potential applications in biopharmaceuticals, biological reagents, and related fields.
Gel Coat™ is a proprietary polymer material designed to stabilize the local environment surrounding biomolecules such as enzymes and proteins.
We have been developing Gel Coat™ as a material technology that helps protect biomolecules from environmental stresses during storage, including temperature fluctuations and freeze-thaw cycles, while maintaining their functionality.
In validation studies using enzymes, Gel Coat™ demonstrated improved storage stability even under conditions in which enzymatic activity would otherwise decline significantly.
For example, while an enzyme conventionally degraded to below 80% activity after 28 days under cryogenic storage at -30°C, the use of Gel Coat™ demonstrated that over 80% activity was maintained after 28 days even under 4°C storage.
By applying this stabilization technology to biopharmaceuticals, biological reagents, and other biomolecule-based products, Gel Coat™ may contribute to reducing dependence on refrigerated and frozen cold-chain logistics, lowering transportation and storage costs, and expanding the geographic reach of product distribution.
The presentation also highlighted the future potential of the technology and Gel Coat Biomaterials’ business development strategy in the pharmaceutical, medical, and healthcare sectors.
Gel Coat Biomaterials is advancing material design tailored to specific enzymes, proteins, and usage environments, and is currently exploring applications in a wide range of biologically derived products where storage stability remains a key challenge, including biopharmaceuticals, enzyme formulations, diagnostic products, and vaccines.
Going forward, we will continue to accelerate the practical application of Gel Coat™ through technology evaluation, joint research and development, licensing, and other forms of partnership with pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology companies, and research institutions.
We also welcome discussions with venture capital firms, corporate venture capital investors, and business partners interested in the growth potential of our technology and business.
Companies and research institutions facing challenges related to the storage stability of biopharmaceuticals, enzymes, proteins, cold-chain logistics, manufacturing, or distribution are encouraged to contact us.
